About

FOMAA New York Metro Region

The Federation of Malayalee Associations of Americas (FOMAA), established in 2008, is the largest and most prominent umbrella organization representing over 84 Malayalee associations across the USA and Canada. FOMAA is dedicated to uniting the vibrant Malayalee (Kerala-origin) diaspora, promoting their cultural heritage, and supporting their integration into the broader American and Canadian communities. Among the 12 regions of FOMAA, the New York Metro Region is the most active, prestigious, and widely recognized, encompassing the five boroughs of New York City, Long Island (Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties), and Staten Island. The region represents 11 prominent Malayalee associations, including the 53-year-old Kerala Samajam of Greater New York (KSGNY), one of the oldest Malayalee organizations globally.

Our Mission

FOMAA NY Metro Region is committed to:

Providing emotional, psychological, economic, artistic, and linguistic support to the Indian and Malayalee community in the United States.
Preserving and promoting traditional Kerala values while encouraging assimilation into American society.
Empowering the Malayalee diaspora to take leadership roles in local politics and culture, ensuring their voices are heard and their contributions recognized.

Our Mission

Our Leadership

The New York Metro Region follows the bylaws and constitution of the FOMAA National Administration. Leadership within the region is democratically elected for a two-year term, with the Regional Vice President (RVP) serving as the head of the region. The Executive Committee, under the RVP’s leadership, coordinates all activities and ensures alignment with FOMAA’s goals. For the current period of 2024–2026, the New York Metro Region is represented by 70 delegates (7 delegates from each of the 10 member associations) at the national level.

Our Collaboration with FOMAA National

The New York Metro Region works closely with the FOMAA National Team to achieve shared goals and implement projects that benefit the broader diaspora. These include:
  • Coordinating conventions, training sessions, and workshops on diverse topics.
  • Strengthening ties between Malayalee communities across North America.
  • Encouraging participation in national and international events organized by FOMAA.

Looking Ahead

With a focus on empowering the Indian-origin Kerala community, FOMAA New York Metro Region aims to foster leadership opportunities in politics, culture, and other spheres. By connecting communities and celebrating culture, we strive to ensure that Malayalees in the region can preserve their heritage, thrive in their adopted homeland, and contribute meaningfully to society.
